What to Do after Phone Contract Ends

Abr 18, 2022 |

The other problem is with applications. Some apps run on older versions of the phone`s operating system, but others don`t. My old iPhone 3G, for example, won`t be updated beyond iOS 6, which means we won`t be able to run the Gmail app. It`s not really a problem because I use this machine for Pandora, but if I relied on it for everyday use, Gmail would have come out (and yes, I know there are other email apps, but you`ll see where I`m going here). These are officially known as Annual Best Rate Notifications (ABTNs) and will be rolled out to broadband, pay-TV and mobile customers from 15 February 2020. So, you should get one soon if you haven`t already. If you have such a plan and are happy with your current handset, it may be acceptable to do nothing, but we always recommend that you at least see what other options you have by researching deals or calling your network to see what they can offer you. You can also keep your old phones and reconnect them. However, over time, upgrades will be harder to find, they will slow down your phone`s performance, be subject to more security vulnerabilities, and stop running some favorite apps. Under the new legislation, which entered into force on 15 February 2020, all broadband, telephony, pay-TV and mobile operators are now required to inform customers when their contract is about to expire. This lets customers know that they can start looking for a better deal. Instead, you can wear a brand new handset, enjoy free retail prices and gifts, while paying less than you do now.

You have two options when your mobile phone contract expires, each with its own advantages and disadvantages. Let`s look at them one by one. We bet a new phone is the most common thing people do when their contract comes to an end. This means signing a new contract – usually for 24 months – with a new handset and probably a new set of allowances. But that`s just a preview of your options. Below, we`ll take a close look at all of these options, along with the pros and cons of each, so you know exactly what`s going on and what your choices are, and you can decide which one is the best choice for you. However, for now, keep in mind that it is very unlikely that your upgrade offer will be the best on the market. If you want the best deal possible, you need to look around.

You need to take a look at what`s wrong with alternative providers. You`re pretty sure to find that they offer much more attractive introductory offers. As the end of your contract approaches, your supplier will send you a letter and probably a text – probably several texts – to inform you. If you have a monthly payment contract with a linked handset, part of these notifications consists of offers to update your handset. There are also pros and cons that we will talk about in the next section. You can also find out the end date via the Vodafone app. Go to «My Product & Services» and click on «My Plan». It will tell you when your contract ends. The last option you have is to change the network completely. Finally, since you no longer have a contract, you can leave.

Although the latest version of the smartphone can be attractive, the latest model usually has few improvements over the previous one. It`s definitely worth sticking to your existing phone for as long as possible and saving money by paying only for your airtime. In the first 12 months after suppliers start sending notifications, Ofcom will pay particular attention to how suppliers communicate with customers. Until now, it was up to the customer to know if he was in the contract or not. If you don`t want to be tied to a contract at all, or if the number of minutes and dates required varies greatly each month, consider switching to pay-as-you-go. This means that you only pay for the minutes, texts and data you use and you have no contract. Most contracts combine a payment for the SIM card and a payment for the phone, so once you`re done paying for the phone (at the end of your contract), you should be able to significantly reduce the cost of your contract if you decide not to upgrade. As you can see in our comparison tool at the bottom of the page, you can get a SIM offer only for £17. Once a contract ends, however, you`ve paid for your phone – so if you keep paying the same amount, you`re paying too much! This is because even if you don`t decide to upgrade your handset, most network providers will continue to charge you the same plan you originally agreed to. Officially referred to as Annual Best Rate Notifications (ABNs), out-of-contract notifications ensure that each mobile and broadband service provider communicates regularly with customers who are not in their initial contract to remind them that they don`t have to stay on the same plan. .
